WHY IS 100% KHADI COTTON SUSTAINABLE?
IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT – It has net-zero carbon emissions. Kadhi cotton yarn is made on a traditional wooden wheel called Charkha. The spinning wheel spins threads that become thinner and thinner. At the same time, they are increasingly strong and durable. Hand yarn does not require electricity and is much less aggressive to the fiber than machine yarn.
LOW WATER CONSUMPTION – Very little water is used in production and processing. The plant gets most of its water through rainwater.
TOXIN FREE – No chemicals are used in the production of Khadi cotton. They do not release toxic gases when burned.
100% BIODEGRADABLE MATERIAL – Khadi cotton fibers are 100% biodegradable and suitable for recycling.
HANDMADE – Pickers handpick the white balls from the cotton plant. The seeds are separated from the fibers with a fine comb. The yarn is dyed with natural pigments obtained from various plants, vegetables, minerals, bark, fruit, leaves, flowers, roots and stems. After soaking in a natural pigment, the yarn is wound onto reels. The hands of artisans weave it into fabric. The manufacturing process requires a lot of time and skill. It takes 2.5 hours of manual labor to weave a meter of Khadi fabric.
ETHICAL – Khadi cotton is the fruit of the labor of human hands. It represents the path from seed to fabric and is based on a sustainable economy which ensures that the work process is fair to people, animals and nature. Production and processing help support local artisans and traditional skills.
TRADITIONAL – Khadi is a precious historical resource of skill and tradition, representing a small part of the solutions for a more sustainable future. The process of making Khadi cotton is time-consuming, requires a skilled weaver and is based on tradition passed down from generation to generation.
AIRY AND LIGHTWEIGHT MATERIAL – T he fabric protects the skin from UV rays and is also suitable for wearing in the hot summer months due to its breathability. The fabric also has antibacterial properties and thus prevents the growth of bacteria and allows the skin to breathe.
DURABILITY – Despite repeated washings and years of wear, it is not damaged or destroyed, but becomes increasingly soft and comfortable to wear. The dyed fabric retains its color and does not wash off.
CARE
It is very easy to maintain and does not require special attention. We recommend that you wash clothes by hand or in the washing machine at max. 30 degrees. Tumble drying is not recommended.
Fabrics from our collection are dyed with natural dyes. When washing for the first time, it is recommended to add 1 kg of sea salt to the washing machine and wash the garment at max. 30 degrees. In this way, the natural pigment will be completely fixed in the fabric and will remain completely durable even in subsequent washes.
Natural materials shrink by a few percent during the first wash. A 5-7 percent shrinkage is typical.
