The production of a single T-shirt made from non-organic cotton requires approximately 2,650 liters of water – 22 full tubs of water, for a single T-shirt! We use 91% less water to produce organic cotton. Growing organic cotton means a holistic approach to farming. A step back to the way of cultivation and thinking of our ancestors. It strives for restoration, preservation and balance in nature. In the production and processing, methods and materials are used that have a very low impact on the environment. Methods such as physical removal of weeds instead of using herbicides, crop rotation and composting to preserve the quality of the soil, the use of beneficial insects that feed on pests and thus eliminate the need to use pesticides.
- 100% natural, suitable for recycling and biodegradable
- GOTS certificate – the highest standard of sustainability
- Responsible clothing with a purpose
WHY IS 100% ORGANIC COTTON SUSTAINABLE?
IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT – In the production of organic cotton, only seeds that are not genetically modified are used. It is forbidden to use toxic synthetic chemicals, pesticides, herbicides and artificial fertilizers in the cultivation. Organic production reduces the harmful impact on people, animals and the environment.
ORGANIC CERTIFICATE – Organic cotton must be certified and marked with the GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard) certificate, with class designation ORGANIC, which is the global standard for the production of organic textiles.
In order to obtain the certificate, requirements must be met in the entire process (production of raw materials, ecological and socially responsible production, clear labeling to ensure authenticity). The standard covers the processing, production, packaging, labeling, trading and distribution of all textiles. A textile product that contains a GOTS certificate with the ORGANIC class designation must contain at least 95% of certified organic fibers.
HEALTHY AND SAFE TEXTILES – GOTS Certificate ensures safety for everyone involved in the production and processing of clothes, right up to the end user. It eliminates pollutants during the production of raw materials, protects animals, regulates waste and emissions generated during production, protects workers and protects the environment.
LOW WATER CONSUMPTION – The production of just one T-shirt made of non-organic cotton requires approximately 2,650 liters of water. That means 22 full tubs of water. And that’s just for one shirt. We use 91% less water to produce organic cotton. Production must protect water resources and reuse waste water. Waste water from processing must be cleaned in purification systems. Units with water processes must at all times accurately record the use of chemical substances, energy consumption, water consumption and disposal of waste water and sediments.
NO TOXINS – All chemical substances (dyes and other chemicals) must meet toxicity and biodegradability requirements. The use of toxic heavy metals, formaldehyde, aromatic solvents, nanoparticles, genetically modified organisms (GMOs) and their enzymes is prohibited. The use of synthetic dressing agents is prohibited. Oils for knitting and weaving must not contain heavy metals. Bleach should be oxygen-based (not chlorine-based). Dyes that release carcinogenic amines are prohibited. Printing on fabrics must not contain plastic elements, PVC, nickel or chrome.
ETHICAL – In all processes, production must meet the minimum social criteria of the International Labor Organization (ILO). There is no forced labor, discrimination or slavery, workers have the right to freely associate and negotiate contracts, healthy working conditions, wages guarantee living expenses.
100% BIODEGRADABLE MATERIAL – Organic cotton fibers are 100% biodegradable and suitable for recycling.
BREATHABLE AND LIGHTWEIGHT MATERIAL – The fabric protects the skin from UV rays and is also suitable for wearing in the hot summer months due to its breathability. The fabric also has antibacterial properties and thus prevents the growth of bacteria and allows the skin to breathe.
DURABILITY – Despite repeated washings and years of wear, it does not become damaged or destroyed, but increasingly soft and comfortable to wear. The dyed fabric retains its color and does not wash off.
CARE
It is very easy to maintain and does not require special attention. We recommend that you wash clothes by hand or in the washing machine at max. 30 degrees. Tumble drying is not recommended.
Fabrics from our collection are dyed with natural dyes. When washing for the first time, it is recommended to add 1 kg of sea salt to the washing machine and wash the garment at max. 30 degrees. In this way, the natural pigment will be completely fixed in the fabric and will remain completely durable even in subsequent washes.
Natural materials shrink by a few percent during the first wash. A 5-7 percent shrinkage is typical.
