BIOHOTEL ST. DANIEL IN SECOND PLACE AMONG THE BEST SUSTAINABLE RESTAURANTS IN EUROPE
The EU Action Plan for the Development of Organic Production, adopted in March 2021, is based on an approach aimed at promoting organic production by increasing consumer demand for organic products. This requires, among other things, greater public awareness of the characteristics and advantages of organic production. To this end, the action plan includes the introduction of annual awards to recognize excellence in the ecological value chain.
The EU organic recognition system comprises 7 categories and 8 individual recognitions. The awards are given to various actors in the organic value chain who have developed an excellent, innovative, sustainable and inspiring project with real added value for organic production and consumption. In addition to rewarding excellence in the entire organic chain, the second edition of the “EU Organic award” also marks September 23 as the European Day of Organic Farming, with the aim of raising awareness of organic production and processing.
This year, the European Economic and Social Committee also awarded one of the providers from the Karst-Brkini region in the Best Organic Restaurant/Food Service category.
Biohotel St. Daniel received the award for the second-best sustainable restaurant among hundreds of applicants from eleven European countries.

“We adhere to these principles in our kitchen. We are not inventing anything new. We open the dusty leaves of old books which hide recipes that we have almost forgotten. We don’t just browse cookbooks. The Holy Books are also our source. Our recipes are based on organic, seasonal, indigenous and naturally grown food.”
As the first provider of accommodation in the Karst, Biohotel St. Daniel obtained the Bio Hotel international environmental mark in 2017, and today in the Karst and Brkini region we can boast of thirteen tourism providers that have at least one environmental mark.
